After many leaks from various rumour sites and a few teases form FujiFilm themselves the new “SLR” like X-T1 has been announced. There isn’t much that wasn’t known but a few confirmations have been provided, the camera doesn’t have two SD card slots even though it look like that was the original intention – see the pictures. The auto-bracketing feature is still limited to 3 frames at a maximum of +/- 1EV (this is still an issue for the entire range too – hopefully they can fix this in firmware, if Sony can do it then Fujifilm can too). The video features are still not matching the competition, yes we have a microphone socket, on-board dual microphones and at last a video button but we need to step-up to the competition.
Although we were told that the EVF was going to be good, we didn’t know it would be this good. The EVF is bigger than the optical one in the Canon EOS 1DX which is itself f quite large. FujiFilm have really thought out of the box on this feature. I recommend that you visit the FujiFilm site to read what this can do here.
We now know the price: £1049 body only or £1399 with the 18-55 f2.8-4 OIS Zoom lens. I have already had an email from WEX Photographic about them stocking the body and body & lens combo. They have also created a few “kits” with some of the Fujinon primes lenses too.
What I haven’t seen yet is when this will be released though. 😦
DPReview already have their preview up and this can be found here.
Also announced today is that the most recently released Fujinon lens roadmap held a few surprises, no less than 3 of the new lenses will be weather-sealed (note the “WR” in their names) just like the X-T1:
- XF 16-55 f2.8 R OIS WR (24-82 mm 35 FOV equivalent)
- XF 50-140 f2.8 R OIS WR (75-210mm FOV equivalent)
- XF 18-135 f3.5-5.6 R OIS WR (27-202mm FOV equivalent)
There’s a lot more that I would like to talk about but I do have to go to work. 😦 But if/when you have time I recommend that you visit the Fuji rumours site as Patrick has collated a lot of information – keep up the good work!
